NIGHTS into Dreams was easily one of the ten best games for the Saturn and almost sold me on a system... until I rented a Saturn and a copy, and found that I didn't really like the controls. The 3D controller was just kind of a mess and the original Saturn pad just couldn't handle a 3D game. It was a shame, because everything else about NIGHTS was excellent.
Now, you'd think this would be the godsend behind the Wii version, NIGHTS: Journey of Dreams, right? Retooled, responsive controls? Well, to quote Takashi Iizuka's interview with Games Radar UK on the subject:
"Personally I prefer using the Wii-remote on its own - you just fly. You feel like you're flying, moving more smoothly just with the sensation and freedom of it. But the team use the Gamecube controller because it's so similar to the feel of the original 3D controller. The analogue stick is shorter and more like the Saturn pad."
Huh. I don't really know what to make of that. Do you?
