Wii owners who decided they wanted a copy of Guitar Hero III for their console found themselves facing an unpleasant surprise: mono sound output, not the Dolby Pro Logic II output the box promised. This would be a pretty bad lapse for any game, but it renders a rhythm game like Guitar Hero III nearly unplayable. You can catch our original, livid coverage of the problem in this post.
After a month of ominous silence and nearly a thousand posts on the issue at the official forums, Activision has finally offered fans a concrete solution to the mono problem. As reported by IGN (and some other sites whose coverage I didn't like as much), Activision is simply going to do a second pressing of the game with corrected sound output. Everyone who purchased a faulty copy of Guitar Hero III is entitled to a new disc, free of charge.
Kudos to Activision for offering a classy solution to such a nasty problem. Completely re-pressing the entire run of Wii Guitar Hero III discs can't be cheap.
