It's really hard to make a worthwhile RTS that doesn't support multiplayer. Doing so required an epic story and deep gameplay. Basically, not what you go to Worms for.

That hasn't stopped the Worms: A Space Oddity team from announcing that promised online multiplayer for the Wii version has been axed.

"We've chosen to focus on making the best possible local multiplayer experience through fast-paced gameplay and entertaining party-games," [THQ] continued. "Players will get even more fun and satisfaction from being able to see the reaction of their friends and taunting them with attacks face-to-face."

Kids, that's what we in the business call a bag of flaming bullshit. Chances are the "real" reason is technical problems with the NIntendo Network.

While the Gamepro preview of the game that just went up is admirably tone-neutral, it makes it clear that what remains of the game is pretty thoroughly lobotomized. Less difficulty and wacky tilt controls? Party games? No thanks.
