Psychosis is a bad game. Its best moments are ripped wholesale from R-Type, and even then, it fails to come anywhere close to being entertaining.

More than that, though, it's the utter lack of charm that gets me. There's nothing memorable here. It's Zero Wing without "somebody set up us the bomb." It's Lords of Thunder without the shred metal soundtrack. It's Gaiares with neither the mullet nor the molestache. You can identify it as a horizontally scrolling shooter at twenty paces, but the thing ain't got no soul.

About the best thing you can say about Psychosis is that it resulted in the infiltration of the phrase "try plunging your soul into the mind of a twisted demon" into a Nintendo of America press release.

I got nothing else.

The game, if you ever find yourself depressed enough to play it, gives you control over a ship that flies from left to right. You can collect a variety of power-ups, including a pair of orbs that you can rotate to aim your special weapons and shield your ship from damage.

It sucks, though. All the visual non-sequiturs that make other shooters charming and memorable just come off as gimmicky and annoying here. Alien blobs? Psh, whatever. Spooky Japanese masks? Please. The farting wolf boss?

Well, the farting wolf boss is okay, I guess.

Otherwise, don't even bother. Spend the extra two bucks on Lords of Thunder and never look back. I'm done thinking about this thing.
