You may get excited about Castlevania Judgment just by reading about it. Classic Castlevania characters beating the snot out of each other with redesigns by Death Note and Hikaru no Go mangaka Takeshi Obata? That should be pretty awesome. There's even going to be Order of Ecclesia connectivity.

But... something feels off about this. I can't think of any truly great 3D fighters to ever come out under the Konami aegis. And the designs... uh, I'm guessing Obata was too busy drawing pages to ever play much Castlevania. Check out these design snippets hosted at the Castlevania Encyclopedia and try to keep your jaw from dropping.

I really want to get excited about this but until they release a Castlevania game for a home console that is a 2-D next gen follow up to Symphony of the Night, I can't. Come on, Konami, it's my birthday the day after tomorrow. Make it happen. Please?

Yes, I know, let's take the Death Note characters, and then make them 20 heads tall with stupid, puffy proportions and stupid costumes! That is exactly what that needed!

It's a sad fucking day when one of Japan's most talented artists is reduced to this sort of pandering tripe. I'm sure it's his own decision to go that direction but it still pisses me off.

if this is gonna be anything like the bleach fighting game on the wii then you can count me out. that game was just pure garbage!!!! easily one of the worst fighting games i have ever played. and i've played alot of bad fighters.

To elaborate on KouAidou's comment, those are more specifically Death Note heads krazy-glued onto Jojo's Bizarre Adventure bodies. The costume designs and especially the physiques are very strongly Jojo's-influenced and there are a lot of callbacks to Dio (the vampire from Jojo's) in Dracula's new design.

Yeah, once I had a good night's sleep I could see the Jojo's/general fighting game influence on the bodies (not my favorite by a long shot, but it does what it does). But how bad it looks with the crazy-gluing is amazing. Is it actually possible to pick two more unsuitable for each other? This looks more like a 4chan meme than a serious set of character designs.

You know the idea of Simon Belmont beating down the heroes that took over his series, is actually fairly neat.

Course they ruined that by turning him into the main character of Death Note in bondage gear. I'm not gonna feel like I'm playing as Simon Belmont at all.

Rimmer:

Makes you wonder WTF they were thinking doing redesigns in the first place when we all know the entire point of the game is nostalgia/crossover wank.

I mean, this would be like S-E putting Crisis Core in the hands of some up-and-comer from the manga industry; you just don't do it. You put Nomura on that bitch and let him do his thing, and then people give you lots of money.

It's not a difficult equation. Why did they have to piss on it.

I know this is a lot of posts on the subject but there are just so many angles from which this disgusts, disappoints, and outright angers me.
