Good lord. You know, not everyone likes Guitar Hero: On Tour. I haven't played it (yet), but I know the last post about it here rapidly turned into grousing and kvetching about the track list. Review scores range from ecstatic 9's to miserable 6's.

This critical divide hasn't hurt sales any. It hasn't hurt sales to the tune of Guitar Hero: On Tour selling 300,000 copies in its first week on store shelves. These kinds of numbers are usually reserved for first-party Nintendo efforts, and for an Activision DS game they're positively ridiculous. Is it just that you can't play the game without the pack-in peripheral, so piracy is right out?

Seriously, at least some of you out there reading this have got to have Guitar Hero: On Tour sitting around. How good is it? Are the reviews really off the mark? Were we just cynical bastards about the song quality? Speak up, or I'll remain baffled by On Tour's monster sales until I get a copy.

Like I theorized back then, I suspect they just really just hit their intended audience head-on. The grouse-inspiring track list struck me as more casual/teen-oriented than hardcore rock fanboy, and those people love to vote with their dollars. Whether or not the game is actually any good is academic; Guitar Hero + DS + tween-friendly tracklist = instant money.

I actually did a review on this over at GameGirl. I personally enjoyed this game and the track list wasn't that bad. It did have a variety and there were a few songs I could have done without but overall it was fun. I will say my wrist seriously hurts thanks to this game --wouldn't recommend anymore than 30 minute playing sessions. Sound quality is also pretty damn good for being on the DS but I would suggest using headphones otherwise you will have a hard time hearing some of the songs. If you skeptical about paying the money for it then call your local video store to see if they have any rentals for it.

Ah, I live in podunkville and you can't rent DS games 'round here. I'm fine with dropping some cash on it (after, uh, I replace the DS that disintegrated in my hands tonight), I just really wasn't expecting it to be as big of a title as it is!

Disintegrated? Uh.... well I don't really know what to say about that

It was the damndest thing. I opened it up to start playing a game and the hinge right above the power light just... fell off, exposing the LED and circuit board beneath. The DS still worked, but without the hinge in place the two screens start coming apart. Replacement time.

Wow you must play your DS hardcore for it to just start falling apart lol Do you have the DS Lite or the first DS?

Lynxara

DS Lite. I didn't think I'd been playing it especially hard, but it did survive a trip from San Francisco recently...
