The Lowdown: It's a remake of the much-loved Kirby Super Star with updated graphics and lots of weird unspecified new content. Seriously, I just read the fact sheet and it alludes to all kinds of new stuff that isn't explicitly described. Kirby Super Star Ultra also includes three touch-screen mini-games for up to three players with DS Download Screen support. There's no single unified story (though some of the Super Star modes have expanded plots), just lots of fun little things to do.

The Hype: A lot of people already firmly believed that Kirby Super Star was the absolute best Kirby game. An enhanced DS remake should take a great thing and make it even greater, and introduce a new generation to a game that was amazingly ahead of its time.

The Snark: Why release a game on VC and charge $8 when you can crap out some new graphics and charge $40?

Plenty of new screens and art to enjoy behind the cut.

I can agree with the snark there. This was the *main* game I was waiting to hit VC.

... but... it's Kirby Superstar. I can't hate it. :/

The only potentially bad thing I could see with this port, is the two player co-op being compromised. As most will probably remember in the Snes game Kirby could turn some of the enemies into CPU controlled partners, rather than take their powers. The big feature of this was that player two could join in and directly control these characters which was very cool.

While I clearly see the CPU system is still intact in those screenshots, I already suspect in this remake if a second player joins in, he will be a second Kirby, due to portable limitations and all. (Note the orange Kirby in the Gourmet Race screenshot.) And I doubt Nintendo is awesome enough to add a new mode to let you play as the partners solo. (The only thing that would've made Super Star even greater in my opinion.) So it looks like there won't be a playable Sir Kibble this time around.

Looks good, but I might wait to pick it up for cheaper than $40, because the fact that the SNES version would have been able to be purchased at $8.

I have the impossible dream of this game having wifi 2P, which would definitely make it worth $40.
