Hey, a bit of good news to report for a change! de Blob was one of the best Wii games of 2008, but with any third-party Wii title, you have to wonder if being good means it's going to sell anything. As it turns out, de Blob didn't set the world on fire but did manage to sell a lot better than a lot of other high-profile third-party Wii launches.

According to NPD data for Q4 2008, de Blob sold about 230,000 copies during that period. For perspective, Wario Land: Shake It!, released on the same day, sold only 150,000 copies. Both figures reflect sales for only the US. In a statement to IGN, though, THQ was apparently so pleased with de Blob's worldwide sales that a spokesperson said "We're pleased with de Blob's performance worldwide. It's a great intellectual property and you can tell your readers to expect to see more of de Blob in the future."

Has the long dark winter for third parties on Wii come to an end? Well... a little, at least.

de Blob does rule pretty hard. I'm glad to see that it paid off and didn't turn into another Zack & Wiki.
