Resident Evil 5 will be in stores about a month from now, which means the Capcom's main Resident Evil team is out of "make a game" mode and into "convince people to buy the game" mode. All kinds of interesting things get said during these pre-release barrages of interviews, and Eurogamer's recent interview with RE5 producer Masachika Kawata was no exception.

"Personally I would like to create something on Wii in the Resident Evil family," [Kawata] revealed. "At the moment we don't know and have just been working on RE5, so watch this space."

To date, Resident Evil on Wii has mostly been a barrage of ports (RE4) and remakes (Umbrella Chronicles), excellent through they were. A new, Wii-specific Resident Evil game would go a long way toward apologizing to Wii owners who aren't too thrilled that they'll be stuck with a slightly sparse port of Dead Rising while the rest of the world is gearing up for high-def co-op zombie-shooting goodness.

My guess would be because Resident Evil 5 is built entirely around the online Co-op gameplay. Even if you'd accept the significant graphical downgrade involved as being "easy," remaking RE5 without the Co-Op would basically involve making an entirely new game... and in that case, you might as well make an entirely new game.

Man, say that enough and Capcom will give us RE5: Chop Til You Drop on the RE4 engine, with every major unique RE5 feature removed.

Is that really what you want? Is it really?

@ Einherjar

Its not like they cant make more than 1 game at a time, their making RE5 Dead Rising CTYD Dead Rising 2 and I hear they're porting RE0, 1,2 and 3 to Wii, and that about taking out Co-Op is not exactly accurate, there is a FPS WiiWare game in the works with 4 player Co-Op, how hard could be making 2 player Co-Op for a full retail game?

@ Lynxara

I can actually picture Capcom doing that, that would be the easy thing to do, but its not impossible to make a Wii version of the game with only a a few minor downgrades, that would be the right thing to do.

Take a look at RE5. It's full to bursting with all sorts of next-generation graphic effects. As Einherjar says, if you're going to port that, it'd involve so much work that you might as well be making a brand-new game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a viciously downgraded RE5 Wii Edition at some point in the future, admittedly.

Look at my last comment.

Trust me. I've played RE5, and you're flat-out wrong.

I've played it to, and I haven't seen anything in it that needs to be downgraded besides graphics.

I'd wait till people get a chance to play the full game before making judgement... but just going by what I saw in the demo, all you'd have to do is downgrade the graphics, probably take out a few zombies here and there, but everything else would be more than possible, and the controls would be infinately better.
