Nintendo's put the "celebrity endorsement" approach to selling its games to good use in TV spots in just about every major territory where it sells games. Now it's putting perhaps its biggest celebrity endorsement push ever for a North American title behind Rhythm Heaven, which is launching alongside the DSi on April 5.

Rhythm Heaven's North American spokesperson is going to be R&B singer/producer/actress Beyoncé, who spent yesterday shooting a TV spot for the game that is hopefully going to be all over television in the next few weeks. The spot isn't available for viewing anywhere just yet, but appears to be in the same vein as the America Ferrera commercial for New Super Mario Bros. (Only... making more sense, really.)

Now, you may be wondering, "Why does Beyoncé want to promote a video game that's not even a huge multi-platform mass-marketing extravaganza?" Well, it turns out she's from the Nintendo generation, too.

What was the first game system you had when you were growing up?

A Nintendo. I would play Super Mario Bros. We weren't supposed to play it after 9 o'clock, and I would sneak and play all night. I loved it.

This is more than I, or I think anyone reading this, probably thought they'd ever have in common with Beyoncé.
