Gird your loins for a big Nintendo announcement at E3 (or later), folks. GameStop CEO Dan Dematteo has confirmed in an interview that Nintendo is planning to release a megaton game by the end of the year-- something not yet announced, but a big enough deal that "they have told us to reserve [shelf] space".
At last year's E3 show, Reggie Fils-Aime stated that teams were at work on the next Mario and Zelda titles. What he could have considered the next Zelda, Spirit Tracks, was unveiled at GDC... but if a console Zelda is on the way, saving its announcement for a show later in the year would make a lot of sense. We could also be looking at the announcement of the next Mario title, the MIA Kid Icarus remake rumored for the past two years, or the confirmed-in-development but as-yet-unseen Pikmin 3.
It's probably not something entirely new snce Dematteo described the game as a "key property," which to me spells out a remake or sequel for an established Nintendo IP. Ladies and gentlemen, start placing your bets...
