Nintendo's got some of the best PR money can buy already, but it still manages to really impress every now and then with its clever viral ads. This new effort, from the firm that promoted Wario Land: Shake It!! with a truly memorable YouTube campaign is back with another one, a mockumentary about how Little Mac intends to stage his huge 2009 comeback.

Little Mac in this spot is being played by real-life boxer Paulie "The Magic Man" Malignaggi. Good ol' crazy Doc Louis is being played to perfection by the Wire's Isiah Whitlock, Jr. (a.k.a. Senator Clay Davis). This is the platonic ideal of video game advertising as far as I'm concerned, funny and entertaining by itself. No, it doesn't feature a bit of actual gameplay footage, but you can go check out some other trailers to see that. This is just fun.

AMAZING CLICK-THROUGH BONUS: Doc Louis teaches you the control basics for the Remote and Nunchuk style of gameplay. We have reached a new standard of brilliance for in-game tutorials. They should all be conducted in this fashion in the future.

If you can't get enough of Whitlock as Doc Louis (and I did), head to the official Punch-Out website and click the Listen Up! button. You'll be glad you did.

I wonder if they're setting up King Hippo as the final boss in the new game?

hehe, the music in the tutorial video's beginning sounds like "Turn Your Love Around"

He lost to King Hippo?

It happens. He just had an off day! Little Mac let his little brother hold the controller.

Those were awesome. Would be nice if those were included as an extra in the game itself, though I doubt there would be enough space.
