So just what is the new TellTale series debuting at this year's E3? Why, it's Tales of Monkey Island, a TellTale Games-developed revisiting of the Monkey Island franchise that was once one of the crown gems in LucasArts's adventure gaming crown. Like the other TellTale games, Tales of Monkey Island will be a five-chapter episodic series offered to PC and but a single console. This time around, WiiWare is the big winner.

The new Monkey Island, much like the old Monkey Island, will focus on the further adventures of Guybrush Threepwood as he battles his nemesis LeChuck. In this game he unleashes a voodoo curse on the Caribbean that turns pirates into monsters, which is probably pretty inconvenient if you're a pirate. While TellTale is famously staffed by old LucasArts veterans, original Monkey Island creator Tim Schafer won't be involved in the new WiiWare version.

For 360 fans and PC gamers, the new Tales of Monkey Island series will be followed up by The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, a massive revamp of the original 1990 game that features new high-res graphics, full voice acting, and remastered music. Personally, I'm just psyched about the fact that LucasArts is acknowledging that it was, once, a gaming company about a lot more than churning out new Star Wars tie-ins.

Man I hope the remake keeps the one-shot joke about Loom in there in some form.

HEY TELLTALE WHERE IS MY LOOM REMAKE.

Oh man I feel so bad. But they have opened a door, here. A terrible, terrible door, beyond which lies a zombie-like horde of nostalgic, ten-years-starving adventure game fans.

I hope that, if this sells well enough, they give us Maniac Mansion + Day of the Tentacle for 'ware :D

Oh man, Telltale would make the most utterly brilliant Maniac Mansion sequel, wouldn't they?
