The latest issue of Famitsu has revealed images of one of the new mystery characters from the upcoming US release of Tatsunoko VS Capcom: Ultimate All Stars. A good amount of people will be pleased to learn that character is none other than Tekkaman Blade.
Originally released in 1992, Tekkaman Blade followed the story of “D-Boy” (short for “Dangerous Boy”, a nickname given to him by his teammates) in his fight with alien invaders known as the Radam. It was a remake/reimagining of the original 1975 Tekkaman and proved popular enough that a six-episode, Original Animation Video sequel was made. The above video is the opening to the 1995 dubbed and edited version of the show, re-titled as Teknoman, which American fans are far more familiar with.
If Capcom was looking to get attention from the US audiences, then this move certainly will do so. While its American popularity never reached the heights of Sailor Moon or Gundam Wing, Teknoman generated an intensely loyal cult following that has persisted to this day. This loyalty is so deep that when the series was released on DVD, it was available in both its original and dubbed formats, as enough people had indicated they would purchase the latter.
