XSEED's The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road shipped a few weeks back, roughly coinciding with the recent release of the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz on Blu-Ray. To celebrate, XSEED has sent OMG Nintendo four copies of the Nintendo DS game to give away to our readers.

To enter the contest, just leave a comment below that answers the following question: What is your favorite version of The Wizard of Oz? What you pick doesn't matter-- it can be anything from the classic movie to one of L. Frank Baum's original novels to weird stuff like the grim n' gritty Oz comics-- but writing something amusing certainly won't hurt your chances of winning.

Before you submit your entry, make sure you either enter a valid mailing address in your GamePro.com profile or leave a valid e-mail address in your comment. I can't send you a free game if I don't know where to mail it!

You have one week to submit a comment to this entry if you want to enter. The contest ends at 8:00 AM on October 18, 2009. The winners will be announced sometime on October 19 (possibly in the evening).

For the record, my favorite version of The Wizard of Oz is probably Return to Oz, the absolutely surreal 1985 film that adapted the second novel in Baum's original series. The special effects at the time were just perfect for expressing how strange and unsettling Baum's Oz was meant to be, especially when it came to nasty bad guys like the Wheelies and the Nome King.

I agree with Return to Oz, but a close runner-up is Meco's album "Meco Plays The Wizard of Oz." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meco_Plays_The_Wizard_of_Oz
The combination of Instrumental Disco and Oz conjures up such wonderful images as the Roller Derby Guild, the Mirror-Ball Woodsman and The Wicked Fro of the West. ...Now that I think about it, wasn't that last one in The Wiz?

Return to Oz does have an awesome Nome King, but I have an odd soft spot for the early 90s comic Oz Squad. It didn't hold up as well as I hoped when I went back and reread it, but it's still an interesting exploration and extrapolation from Baum's characters from an author who very obviously loves and is deeply familiar with the novels.

I liked the play Wicked the best, but the movie is a close second.
Also, the Wizard of Oz scrubs episode was awesome!!

When it comes to what my favorite Wizard of Oz addaptaion is I'd say it would be the The Muppets' Wizard of Oz. I've always loved the muppets since I was little and seeing them portray suck a classic was amazing and hilarious.

The original is a classic one I'll never forget even if I tried, I still remmember that movie it was the best.

Of course for me it's going to and will always be the original classic 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz, that will be considered the best all time franchise of the Oz adaptations.

The Original will always hold a special place in my heart. My mother used to tell me that the flying monkeys gave her nightmares when she was a kid, which I always thought was kind of funny.

What used to give ME nightmares relating to the original was hearing about the original Tin Woodsman's makeup and the resultant hospital trip. It was years before I could even look at the movie again.
